Fargo-rated handicaps for fair amateur pool matches

Every player rated by FargoRate, so a newer shooter gets a real match against a strong one.

Chapter 01

Why does every player carry a Fargo rating?

The league uses the Fargo Rating System to create fair matches between amateur players. Ratings come from FargoRate, and the idea is in the league's own words: establish and grow your rating to see how you compare to other players all over the world. The number you build in a Tuesday night division at Continental Pool Lounge in Arlington is the same kind of number a shooter in a Bowie or Fredericksburg room is carrying.

You don't have to take anyone's word for where you stand. The public report lives at lms.fargorate.com/publicreport/alldivisions. Click VA, then DMV Pool USAPL League, then the current year, and the divisions open up.

What are the Gold and Platinum team limits?

Handicapping also keeps whole rosters honest. Gold Tier teams play under a team handicap limit of 2375, and Platinum Tier teams play under 2750. A team that goes over its limit takes 1 penalty point for each Fargo handicap point it is over, so stacking a roster has a visible cost.

Platinum and Silver divisions are mixed format with straight game races. On the standings page they read "Coming soon!" with one exception: Breakers Sky Lounge in Herndon, Monday 8B/10B at 7:00pm, is listed Platinum/Silver.

Chapter 03

What if a rating or a score looks wrong?

The fees for disputing something are published, so nobody has to guess what a question costs. A Fargo review is $20 per player or $100 per team. A match score review is $40 per match and has to be requested within 2 weeks. A match protest is $50 per match.

If you're not sure which one applies, call a league operator before you pay anything: Shanna Lewis at 321-604-1192, Prasad Jayaraman at 785-218-4643 or Chris Mitchell at 571-214-0432. Rosters and general questions can also go to info@dmvpool.com.
