Chapter 01

What a division is: 4 to 16 teams in one host room

In the league's own words: "if you're looking to join a team, form a team or start up your own division, we are ready to help!" A division is a group of 4 to 16 teams that plays out of a host room on a set weekly night.

Rooms across the DMV already run divisions. Revolution Darts & Billiards hosts Wednesday 8-ball in both Fairfax and Springfield, Center Pocket in Bowie runs Tuesday 8-ball and a Sunday 10-ball division, and The Corner Pocket in Williamsburg plays 10-ball on Tuesdays at 6:00pm. The full board, Monday through Sunday, is on the divisions page.

Inside a division, a team rosters up to 8 players and plays 5 sets per scheduled match, using the Short-Race format from the USAPL Race-To-Calculator. The formats on offer are 8-ball, 9-ball, 10-ball and mixed 8-ball/10-ball, plus ladies' leagues.

The Division Rep: who keeps a division running week to week

Each division has its own weekly Division Rep. The Rep collects the weekly team fees, $65 per scheduled match, in cash or digitally, and submits them to the league. When team fees are paid the night of play and the Rep submits payment within 24 hours, the team earns 100 bonus points.

Of every $65, exactly $40 goes to the Player Prize Fund, held in the National Escrow Account. That is the money that sponsors local teams and players to the National Championships in Las Vegas.

The Rep's side of the deal is $750 toward Nationals travel and free play, with a minimum of two consecutive sessions per year. The league runs three sessions a year: Winter at 16 weeks, Summer at 15 and Fall at 15.

How to start: one phone call or one sign-up form

The fastest way in is a call. Shanna Lewis is at 321-604-1192, Prasad Jayaraman at 785-218-4643 and Chris Mitchell at 571-214-0432. They are the league's three operators, and any of them can talk through a host room, a night and a first set of teams.

If you'd rather write, the sign-up form on the contact page asks for first name, last name, email, phone, city, state and a message. Tell them the room you have in mind, the night you want and how many teams you think you can bring.

Once teams are signed up, roster submissions go to info@dmvpool.com. Before you pitch a room or a night, have a look at the divisions page to see which towns and nights already have a division running.
